BKS Iyengar is one of the most important yoga masters today. He has dedicated his life to the study and development of yoga, has written books and essays , and was one of the first to introduce yoga in Europe and the USA. Many of todays yoga styles are based on his teachings. His most well known book ‘Light on Yoga’ (1966), still influences yoga practitioners worldwide.

Guruji BKS Iyengar

BKS Iyengar was born in 1918, in Bellur, India. At the age of 16, he went to live with his brother-in-law and future guru, Krishnamacharya, who was a respected yoga master, whose students included the maharaja of Mysore, Pattabhi Jois, Indra Devi and his own son, TKV Desikachar.
As a young man in Pune he dedicated himself to studying and teaching yoga, was married and had a family with his wife Ramamani. In 1975, after his wife’s untimely death, he founded the now well known Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute (RIMYI). Over 70 years of teaching experience and intensive yoga practice earned BKS Iyengar and his method worldwide respect.
